Civil Engineering

Provide subject matter expertise for the various types of public works infrastructure capital improvements projects (FEMA, Bond, State, Hazard Mitigation, Green Infrastructure, etc.) including roadways, drainage and public utilities through all phases of project delivery from initial planning and design to construction and project closeout

Roadway Design

Prepare plans for variety of construction projects using computer applications such as AutoCad Civil 3D, InRoads, MicroStation, HYDR2009, and WMS (Watershed Modeling System), for technical design computations to determine plan quantities for earthwork, pipe sizes and lengths, drainage inlets spacing and locations, guardrails, base courses, asphaltic concrete, Portland cement concrete pavement and striping.

Construction Administration

Assist in the management of the consultant architecture/engineering firms for design, construction administration, and Resident Inspection.

Construction Inspection

Provide services required for the structural inspection, repair and rehabilitation of bridges, culverts, storm drains, retaining walls, noise barriers, dams, levees, water tanks, bulkheads.

FEMA Public Acceptance

Provide subject matter expertise directly related to the administration and management of the FEMA grant programs. Conduct Preliminary Damage Assessments (PDA) of buildings, structures, and/or facilities, and provide evaluation of disaster related damages. Formulate technically complex disaster recovery projects and act as a technical resource by providing guidance to the FEMA eligible Applicants. Evaluation and determination of FEMA eligible and disaster related damages. Technical Assistance for all FEMA categories of work (A through G).

Located in New Orleans, LA, the company is owned and operated by an individual with diverse technical backgrounds and expertise, holding two Civil Engineering degrees. Our primary services include Civil and Structural Engineering (Roadway, Water, Sewer, and Drainage Design, Project Management, Construction Administration, and Inspection), Disaster Recovery, and FEMA Public Assistance Services, with a strong focus on project formulation (Scoping and Costing). These cutting-edge services are delivered by a team of talented engineers dedicated to transforming our communities. At Vertex Worx, we ensure that every design and implementation consider the needs of our communities.

Our key personnel have served as Project Managers for the City of New Orleans and are highly familiar with local government and federal standards and specifications. They have undertaken professional roles managing the design and construction of the $2.4B Capital Improvement Program. This work involved overseeing consultants and contractors to provide design, project and program management, utility coordination, testing and inspection, and construction services for the City’s capital infrastructure improvement program. Our team provided accurate and ongoing status reports to city management, recommended solutions for project issues, coordinated design quality control and assurance, managed contracts, budgets, and claims. Effective communication of progress was maintained with team members, senior management, and funding agencies such as FEMA and GOHSEP.

In addition to the services outlined in this Capability Statement, Vertex Worx can provide additional engineering-related services such as Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Wastewater and Sewer Systems, Topographic Surveying, Materials Testing, etc., leveraging our network of multiple sub-consultants across various disciplines as part of our team.

Design and Construction Services:

  • Provide subject matter expertise for various types of public works infrastructure and capital improvement projects (FEMA, Bond, State, Hazard Mitigation, Green Infrastructure, etc.), including roadways, drainage, and public utilities, throughout all phases of project delivery from initial planning and design to construction and project closeout.
  • Provide services encompassing various tasks and projects, including recreational trails planning and design, ADA priority assignments, and stormwater/drainage management.
  • Design and implement Traffic Control Plans for utility companies, municipalities, and private contractors.
  • Provide services necessary for the structural inspection, repair, and rehabilitation of bridges, culverts, storm drains, retaining walls, noise barriers, dams, levees, water tanks, and bulkheads.
  • Prepare plans for a variety of construction projects using computer applications such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, InRoads, MicroStation, HYDR2009, and WMS (Watershed Modeling System).
  • Perform technical design computations to determine quantities for earthwork, pipe sizes and lengths, drainage inlet spacing and locations, guardrails, base courses, asphaltic concrete, Portland cement concrete pavement, and striping.
  • Provide structural and foundation design for medium to large-scale engineering projects in industrial (refineries, plants, terminals, pipe racks) or offshore structures (production platforms, wind farms) using structural software like RISA and SACS. Define and review scopes of work, prepare engineering estimates at proposal and design levels, and develop schedules for civil/structural engineering and design phases of projects.
  • Assist in managing consulting engineering firms for design, construction administration, and Resident Inspection.

FEMA Public Assistance Services:

  • Provide subject matter expertise directly related to the administration and management of FEMA grant programs.
  • Conduct Preliminary Damage Assessments (PDA) of buildings, structures, and/or facilities, and evaluate disaster-related damages.
  • Formulate technically complex disaster recovery projects and act as a technical resource by providing guidance to FEMA-eligible applicants.
  • Evaluate and determine FEMA eligibility and disaster-related damages.
  • Provide technical assistance for all FEMA categories of work (A through G), including Emergency Protective Measures projects.
  • Navigate through FEMA platforms (Grant Portal/Grants Manager).
  • Formulate Scope of Work according to FEMA requirements.
  • Provide disaster recovery and management services with an emphasis on engineering and design principles.
  • Develop cost estimates and scopes of work, including compliance with related codes and standards. Proficiently utilize FEMA-required/approved cost estimating tools such as CEF (Cost Estimating Format) and RS Means Costing Software.
  • Develop Hazard Mitigation proposals for FEMA-eligible projects.
  • Support and implement FEMA policies during project initiation/formulation; address inconsistencies, special considerations, and compliance issues.
  • Conduct Environmental and Historic Preservation (EHP) compliance reviews on the actual Scope of Work to assess potential environmental issues, historic properties, or archaeological impacts. This includes, but is not limited to, demolition, site preparation, and ground-disturbing activities.
